Train The Monkey

Gopal found a monkey in the nearby forest and caught him. But Gopal did not know what to do with it. His financial situation was not that great at that moment. So he thought he will train the monkey and make some money from its shows.

It was hard to control the monkey. But Gopal knew how to handle him. He tied the monkey with a 20 feet long rope and asked the monkey to jump. The monkey first tried to pull himself free but due to the pain in the neck he sat down and very soon began to jump within 20 feet.

Then Gopal reduced the length of the rope to 10 feet. The monkey again had a problem with his reduced freedom but slowly got adjusted because it had no other option. And very soon, the monkey began to jump and dance in a 3 feet long rope.

Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj tells us that our mind is like a monkey. It has been jumping around freely for so many life times.

And when we sit for Sadhana, the mind freely goes anywhere. But we need to train it not by stopping the thoughts of the mind but by placing Shyam Sunder wherever the mind goes. Very soon the mind will realize that wherever it will go, it will find Shyam Sunder. And so it will stop jumping and will let you focus on Shyam Sunder peacefully.
