Once Buddha had a visitor who was not happy with Him. So as soon as he saw Buddha coming, he started yelling and abusing Him. The complaining was not coming to an end.
Buddha listened patiently while the stranger vented his rage. Then Buddha told one of His
disciples - This man must be tired. Give him some food and water.
The man was surprised.
He said - What kind of person are you? I have been complaining about you for so long and you are serving me food?
Buddha replied to the stranger - If someone gives a gift to another person, who then chooses to decline it, tell me, who would then own the gift? The giver or the person who refuses to accept the gift?"
"The giver," said the group after a little thought. "Any fool can see that," added the angry stranger.
"Then it follows, does it not," said the Buddha - Whenever a person tries to abuse us, or to unload their anger on us, we can each choose to decline or accept the abuse.
Moral Of The Story
From this story, we learn that we should stay calm when dealing with an angry person. This way, we protect our Sadhana and do not allow the negative content to reach our mind.
