King Janak's Guru was teaching a Ved Mantra. Janak was also there.
Janak's Guru used to always have Janak sit in the front row. This made the other disciples feel very jealous. Guru Ji knew it. So He decided to clarify this to them through a Leela.
Guru Ji created a fire with His power of Yogmaya. All disciples were scared and ran to get shelter. All they had was a dhoti and a kamandal. And they ran to protect these?
The fire spread in entire Janak Pur. Janak's palace was on fire too. His guards servants came running to Janak who was sitting with Guruji and told him - Maharaj! The entire city is on fire. There is a chaos every where. What should we do?
Janak told them - Why can't you take care of it yourselves? This is not the first time we have seen
fire. Please do not disturb me.
Then he turned to Guru Ji - Guru Ji, please continue. Please complete your explanation.
Guru ji now turned to other disciples – You were all jealous with Janak because I used to ask him to sit in the front row. But look at his vairag! Janak’s entire kingdom is on fire but he is still sitting here unperturbed. He cares more for my words than his entire kingdom. That’s why he sits in the front.
Moral Of The Story
In this story, Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj explains the practical outlook of vairag or detachment from the world.
A detached person does not feel sad if his world is lost and does not feel happy if he makes any material gains.
Another lesson is that the words of the Guru are Divine. Guru is the messenger of God and has come to earth to teach us how to attain God. The value of Guru's Divine words is much higher than any material wealth.
