Do Not Postpone The Good Actions

After the victory of the Pandavas in the battle of Mahabharata, once a Brahmin came to
Yudhishter to ask for material help for his daughter's marriage. Yudhishter was busy in something and asked the brahmin to come the next day.

Bhim was watching this. He called the Prime Minister and ordered him to arrange for a celebration. The minister had the entire city lighted. There were fireworks everywhere.

Yudhishter called the minister and asked him - What is the occasion? Why are we celebrating? It is neither Ram Navami, nor Janamashtami today.

Minister - Maharaj! Your brother Bhim ordered this celebration.

Yudhishter asked Bhim - Why are we celebrating?

Bhim - Bhaiya, You have won Kaal.

Yudhishter - Have you gone crazy? What are you talking about?

Bhim - Then why did you ask the Brahmin to come tomorrow? You could have asked me to help him. If you left the world tonight then how will you fulfill your promise? How did you assume that you will live till tomorrow?

Yudhishter understood his mistake. He said - Call the Brahmin right now and give him what he wants.

Moral of the Story

Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj says that we should not postpone good deeds. He describes two reasons for that.

One, since our intellect is material, there is only a small proportion of time when it decides to do something good, something for the next lives. When this decision comes, we should do it immediately because we may change our mind the next moment and that would result in a loss in our spiritual account.

Two, no one knows when he will have to leave this body. Hence, if death were to come today, postponing would be a loss for our paramaarth.
